The Commission for Women is throughout the campuses of The Pennsylvania State University. Featured in today's liaison meeting were best practices from Great Valley, Altoona, Brandywine, Lehigh Valley, Hazelton, Schuylkill, Hershey, Berks, and Harrisburg campuses. The slides of the best practices are available on slideshare.
Attendees discussed ways to have the campus commissions help students. Much discussion focused around ways to leverage student activities funding with external funding sources to help raise awareness of women's issues and advocate for support of women, such as a lactation room on the Harrisburg campus, a women in business luncheon at Schuylkill, and lunch and learns.
External partners have included local women in business groups, Women's Resource Center, and Stormbreak. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a national event where men walk a mile in women's shoes in an effort to raise awareness for sexual assault. The Pottsville event, near the Schuylkill campus, raised approximately $40,000.
